The 360 Precision Evolution is an 18-inch competition AR-15 chambered in .223 Wylde, purpose-built for practical rifle competition, 2-Gun, 3-Gun, and precision semi-auto matches. It is the most premium rifle in the 360 Precision lineup and the only model designed exclusively for competitive shooting.
The barrel is an 18-inch White Oak Armament 416R stainless steel SPR, one of the most respected match-grade barrels in semi-auto competition. White Oak barrels are hand-lapped and air-gauged, and the SPR profile balances rigidity and weight in a way that suits sustained competition strings where barrel heat and harmonics both matter. The .223 Wylde chamber fires both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO, giving you access to the full range of match and training ammunition.
What separates the Evolution from every other competition AR-15 on the market is the patented 15-inch ARCA handguard with a tool-less removable steel weight system. The weight slides in and out of the handguard without any tools, letting you adjust the rifle’s balance between competition stages in seconds. Add weight for prone-heavy stages where you want the rifle to settle fast. Remove it for movement stages where you need the rifle light and agile. No other production AR-15 offers this capability.
The rest of the build is equally competition-focused: TriggerTech AR-15 Duty PVD flat trigger at 3.5 lbs, Toolcraft DLC-coated BCG with 9310 bolt, MagPul UBR GEN2 collapsible stock for rock-solid cheek weld, Breek SledgeHammer ambidextrous charging handle, Fortis RED 556 muzzle brake, and BattleArms BAD-ASS-PRO ambidextrous safety. The rifle-length gas system delivers the softest recoil impulse of any barrel length in the lineup, which translates to faster follow-up shots and less fatigue across a two-day match.
Every Evolution is machined, assembled, and tested in 360 Precision’s Warminster, PA facility. Weight: 8.5 lbs without the handguard weight, 10.5 lbs with it installed.
Who should buy the Evolution Competition Rifle?
The Evolution is built for one purpose – winning matches. It is the right rifle if you:
- Compete in 3-Gun, 2-Gun, practical rifle, or precision semi-auto matches and want a gas gun that is match-ready out of the box without aftermarket modifications.
- Need the ability to adjust your rifle’s balance between stages. The patented tool-less weight system is the single biggest competitive advantage this rifle offers, and no other production AR-15 has it.
- Want a White Oak Armament barrel for proven sub-MOA accuracy in a semi-auto platform. White Oak SPR barrels have a long track record in NRA High Power and practical rifle competition.
- Are willing to invest in the top of the 360 Precision lineup ($2,575 to $2,775) for a purpose-built competition platform rather than upgrading a general-purpose rifle.
This is not a general-purpose rifle. At 8.5 to 10.5 lbs and 34 to 37.5 inches, it is heavier and longer than the Recon Rifle. If you need a rifle that does everything – range, home defense, duty, and occasional competition – the Recon Rifle is the better choice at $800 less. The Evolution is for shooters who know they are competing and want every advantage they can get.
How does the Evolution compare to the Recon Rifle?
These two rifles share the same billet 7075-T6 platform, the same TriggerTech trigger, the same ambidextrous controls, and the same Toolcraft DLC BCG. The differences are all about the intended use:
Evolution Competition Rifle ($2,575–$2,775):
- 18-inch White Oak Armament 416R stainless SPR barrel
- Rifle-length gas system (softest recoil in the lineup)
- Patented ARCA handguard with tool-less removable steel weight
- MagPul UBR GEN2 collapsible stock (rock-solid cheek weld)
- Ergo Tactical Deluxe grip
- Breek SledgeHammer charging handle
- 20-round magazine
- 8.5 to 10.5 lbs
- Purpose: competition only
Recon Rifle ($1,775–$1,975):
- 16-inch 416R stainless steel dimpled SPR barrel
- Midlength gas system
- Standard 15-inch M-LOK handguard (no weight system)
- THRiL CCS Combat Competition Stock
- THRiL Rugged Tactical grip
- Warhammer MOD2 charging handle
- 30-round magazine
- 7.1 lbs
- Purpose: general-purpose precision rifle
The Evolution adds $800 and two pounds. That $800 buys you the White Oak barrel, the patented ARCA weight system, the UBR stock, and a rifle-length gas system specifically optimized for competition. If you compete regularly, those upgrades pay for themselves in match performance. If competition is occasional, the Recon Rifle with a good optic will hold its own at most local matches.
What makes the ARCA handguard different from a standard handguard?
Most competition AR-15 handguards are M-LOK tubes that hold accessories and free-float the barrel. The Evolution’s patented ARCA handguard does all of that plus two additional things:
First, it integrates a full ARCA dovetail along the bottom of the handguard, giving you infinite fore-aft adjustment for bipods, tripods, and barricade clamps without bolting on a separate ARCA rail. It is built in, not bolted on.
Second, it houses a steel weight that slides in and out without tools. The weight changes the rifle’s balance point, which directly affects how the rifle settles in different shooting positions. Forward weight helps the rifle track smoothly in prone. Removing the weight makes the rifle quicker to shoulder and transition during movement stages.
No other production AR-15 offers this combination. Other high-end competition builders offer weighted buffer systems, but those adjust front-to-rear balance differently than a handguard weight. The Evolution’s system puts the adjustable weight exactly where it has the most impact: at the forend, ahead of the magazine well.
Upgrade to the Krieger Cut-Rifled Barrel
The standard 18-inch White Oak Armament SPR is one of the most proven barrels in semi-auto competition. Hand-lapped, air-gauged, and with a long track record in High Power and practical rifle. Nobody loses a match because of a White Oak barrel.
The Krieger is for shooters chasing the last few percent.
Cut rifling forms each groove one at a time, removing tiny amounts of steel over multiple passes instead of forcing a carbide button through the bore. Slower to make and more expensive, but it leaves almost no manufacturing stress in the steel. That matters most when the barrel is hot. A low-stress barrel holds its dimensions and its zero deep into a string, so your last stage of the day prints where your first one did.
What the upgrade buys you:
- Tighter, more consistent bore and groove dimensions
- Minimal manufacturing stress in the steel
- Point-of-impact stability as the barrel heats
- Precise, repeatable twist rates
- Uniform bullet engagement shot to shot
- Accuracy that holds at extended range
Select the Krieger cut-rifled barrel above to add it to your build.
