The 360 Precision APEX-2 is a .30 caliber muzzle brake designed and CNC-machined in-house from 17-4PH precipitation-hardened stainless steel. It threads onto any .30 caliber barrel with a standard 5/8×24 thread pitch and uses multi-port geometry to redirect propellant gases away from the bore axis, reducing felt recoil and keeping the muzzle flat through rapid fire strings.

This is not a modified off-the-shelf brake with a logo engraved on it. The port angles, spacing, and bore clearance were engineered in our shop using the same approach we apply to every component we manufacture: design it, machine it, test it on our own rifles, and refine it until it performs the way we want it to.

The APEX-2 works with any .30 caliber cartridge threaded 5/8×24, including .300 Blackout, .308 Winchester, .300 Win Mag (if threaded 5/8×24), 7.62×51 NATO, .30-06 (if threaded 5/8×24), and other .30 caliber chamberings. At $79, it sits below most premium .30 cal brakes from competitors like Precision Armament and Area 419 while being machined from the same aerospace-grade stainless steel.

Who should buy the APEX-2?

The APEX-2 is a good fit if you are:

• Building or upgrading a .300 Blackout AR pistol or SBR and want a dedicated .30 caliber brake that keeps the muzzle flat during supersonic strings. On short-barreled .300 BLK platforms, a well-designed brake makes a noticeable difference in how quickly you can get back on target between shots.
• Running a .308 Winchester or 7.62 NATO rifle and want to reduce felt recoil without adding significant weight or length to the muzzle. The APEX-2 brings .308 recoil down to a level where extended training sessions and high-volume range days are less fatiguing.
• Looking for a quality .30 caliber brake at a price point that does not require the $100 to $150 investment of a Precision Armament HYPERTAP or Area 419 Hellfire. The APEX-2 uses the same 17-4PH stainless steel as brakes costing nearly twice as much.
• Replacing the factory A2 flash hider or generic brake on a .30 caliber rifle with something purpose-built for recoil reduction. If your current muzzle device prioritizes flash suppression over recoil control, the APEX-2 is a meaningful upgrade.

How the APEX-2 reduces recoil

Muzzle brakes reduce felt recoil by redirecting the high-pressure gases that exit the barrel behind the bullet. Instead of allowing those gases to push straight back against the shooter, the APEX-2’s angled ports vent them sideways and slightly rearward, counteracting the rifle’s rearward impulse.

The result is less push into your shoulder and less muzzle rise between shots. On a .300 Blackout pistol running supersonic ammunition, this means faster split times. On a .308 bolt action, it means less flinch development during long training sessions and the ability to spot your own impacts through the scope without losing the reticle.

The trade-off (common to all muzzle brakes) is increased lateral blast and concussion for anyone standing beside the shooter. Muzzle brakes are louder at the firing line than flash hiders or bare muzzles. Ear protection is not optional and should already be part of your range routine.

Why 17-4PH stainless steel?

Most budget muzzle brakes ($30 to $50) are machined from mild steel or 4140 chrome moly and coated with black oxide or phosphate to resist corrosion. Those coatings wear off over time, especially at the muzzle where temperatures and carbon fouling are extreme.

17-4PH is a precipitation-hardened stainless steel used in aerospace, surgical, and high-performance firearms applications. It resists corrosion at the material level, not just at the surface. It is harder than mild steel, which means it holds its port geometry and bore clearance tolerances longer under sustained use. And it does not require a sacrificial coating to protect against rust and fouling.

The reason most brakes are not machined from 17-4PH is cost. The material is more expensive and harder to machine, which drives up production time and tooling wear. At $79, the APEX-2 absorbs that cost rather than passing it to a $120+ price tag.

Compatibility

The APEX-2 fits any .30 caliber barrel threaded 5/8×24. Common compatible cartridges include:

• .300 AAC Blackout
• .308 Winchester / 7.62×51 NATO
• .30-06 Springfield (if barrel is threaded 5/8×24)
• .300 Winchester Magnum (if barrel is threaded 5/8×24)
• 7.62x39mm (if barrel is threaded 5/8×24)

It installs with a standard armorer’s wrench. A crush washer or timing shim set (depending on your preferred installation method) is recommended for proper indexing. Contact us if you are unsure about your barrel’s thread pitch.

Do not install a .30 caliber muzzle brake on a .22 or 5.56 caliber barrel. The bore clearance is too large and will not provide effective gas redirection.
